    Default Alienware worth it>?

    Im not seeing the worth.

I was playing around and decided to build a MX17 and then go to Hp's site and build HDX18.

Basically i found you can build better hardware (aside from graphics card) with the HP and still come out Hundreds and hundreds cheaper.

So me being a noob. I dont understand where the worth comes in>?

what ever CPU is in the HDX and the GPU will be far inferior

i own the M17x and i have complete control when overclocking via:

    unlocked FSB
    MEM frequency
    unlocked multipliers

i can overclock my CPU almost 1 ghz past stock and keep it under 65c @ FULL load

ALSO the GPU's in the HDX are not meant for gaming unlike the M17x where GAMING is the top priority. The gaming experience with the M17x will totally crap on the HDX

If you would like benchmarks i would be more then happy to post some.

To my knowledge i still hold the record Vantage run for a GTX 260m

EDIT i don't know the rule here good about linking post but since i can't put up more pictures of my M17x

    17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200 (1200p)
    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
    500GB 7,200RPM w/ Free Fall Protection

    $2074

    HP:

    Software:
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)

    $1694

Plus thats witht he 18 inch screen! Which would be huge. You can get even cheaper if you 16 inch like i have is good enough. Which it is.

The only thing i see better is graphics card ont he alienware.

actually the CP is better as well because the p8700 can hit 3 + ghz easy with the M17x features

ALSO to GPU is about 3 times more powerful

the M17x is a gaming computer and is made for gaming ...the HDX is not a gaming computer which is why it has lower end parts like the GPU

    and you get
    a metal case
    alienfx
    better sound
    better screen
plethera of ports and FAR SUPERIOR cooling

I think the alienware is a better deal if you have a bit more money that is. I am no expert but not only does it look supercool, the price isn't really that bad as i see it. I think you will not regret getting a system like that. If 1500 is the most you can spend go for the hp or wait a few months...for the refreshed M15x hehe if it is really true

You have to deside if the alienware extra's like an aluminium cas that's heavier and the alien fx and cooling are worht the extra bucks for you but it is qbsolutely worth it. Hp dx is also a good quality machine so your choice
